What are LEDs? Angie’s List wrote a pretty good article on LED’s. The only thing they did not discuss is in terms of LED lifetime the LED chip is tested for length of life not the fixture. Power supplies generate heat, heat is the enemy of electronics. In an LED bulb which they talk about in this article, the power supply is built into the base. Often times plastic is the lens, which is not a good conductor of heat. This trapped heat can shorten the life of the LED bulb.
With SST LED lighting solutions we always keep the power supply separate from the LED and in fact, our fixture is the heat sink (what removes the heat). This patented LED allows you to use less energy and have a brighter light than conventional LED fixtures. If you want cutting edge technology, that provides a beautiful even light than contact us to help you assess you LED lighting needs.
SST designs and manufactures LED light fixtures, our company started out making semiconductors so we understand LED’s from the chip to the finished fixture. Call Sunlite Science & Technology LED experts for your lighting needs.
Here is the article “What are LEDs?”
Home lighting has come a long way since the invention of the incandescent light bulb.
LEDs, or light-emitting diodes, are on the cutting edge of home lighting technology. They offer the full spectrum of intensities and colors as existing incandescent or fluorescent bulbs, yet LEDs last much longer and consume far less energy. Unlike fluorescent bulbs, LEDs contain no mercury, making them both family and eco-friendly.
LEDs have existed for more than 50 years, but early versions were mainly reserved for commercial applications, such as retail signs, traffic lights and toys. In part, this was because they couldn’t replicate the warm color of incandescent lights, or ice-like qualities of fluorescent lights. Early versions of LED light bulbs were so expensive that most consumers found them impractical for household use. Read More…
